Adam Trinklein

I’m a double major in mathematics and marine science at UC Berkeley, with the long-term goal of earning a PhD in math. While I’m still exploring the field, I’m especially interested in graph theory, social choice theory, and population dynamics.

I’m currently a fellow with Better Choices for Democracy, where I research and promote consensus-choice voting and advocate for electoral reform. My work sits at the intersection of mathematics and civic engagement, applying social choice theory to practical challenges in democratic decision-making.

Outside of academics, I enjoy creative and physical pursuits that keep my brain and body challenged. I'm currently learning new art forms like silkscreening and woodturning. I spend much of my free time training for triathlon.

Ultimately, I hope to contribute to both mathematical research and education while approaching my work with creativity, curiosity, and a commitment to social impact.

Research Experience

Giant Sea Bass Conservation Internship — Advanced conservation research on the critically endangered California native fish by deploying AI spot mapping algorithms to profile hundreds of individuals and model population and migration.

No Three in Line Problem (Independent Study) — Explored combinatorics and discrete geometry by examining configurations of lattice points on a grid with no three colinear. Authored a short paper investigating its generalizations.

Better Choices for Democracy Fellowship — Applied concepts from social choice theory to analyze consensus voting systems and advocate for electoral reform through research and outreach.

Job Experience

PCC Swim Coach — Provided detailed stroke analysis and corrective feedback to support technical development and competitive performance. Encouraged growth by adapting instructional methods to diverse learning styles.

Independent Math Tutor — Educated students in high school math by reinforcing foundational concepts and helping them develop their problem-solving skills.

UC Berkeley RecWell Lifeguard — Ensured swimmer safety across multiple UC Berkeley pools. Worked to maintain facility readiness across a range of Berkeley pools, serving students and community members.
